What is Ear Candling?

Ear Candling, is also known as Thermal-Auricular Therapy. The origins of Ear Candling have been handed down through many civilizations starting with the Ancient Greeks over three thousand years ago. The Egyptians, Chinese, East Indians and Tibetans also used them for cleansing, purifying and healing both on a spiritual and practical level. More recently, the candles were used by Shamen healers of the Hopi Indian tribe, in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura.

The ear candle is lit and positioned gently inside your ear, just enough so a seal is made and it is comfortable. As the candle’s flame warms the air within the candle, it, in turn, warms the air inside the ear (this will be undetectable to you). Any impurities and excess ear wax are gently warmed and drawn up into the candle; similar to a chimney effect. Gentle vibrations act to softly massage the ear, and the rising air helps to regulate pressure. It is a very relaxing and therapeutic feeling. Your treatment ends with a relaxing acupressure massage to the head and face; this is very effective for lymphatic and sinus drainage.

What is involved in an Ear Candling Treatment?

You will be asked to lie on a couch ( fully clothed), on alternate sides, to enable each ear to be accessed for treatment. You can ask to be covered by a blanket for your comfort.

I only use Biosun manufactured ear candles are used for your health and safety; these have been certified with the CE mark according to the European Medical Device Directive. They are handmade, using 100% natural ingredients such as cotton, beeswax, honey, sage, chamomile, and St. John’s Wort, true to traditional methods.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of treatments varies depending on the complaint.

Initially, most people need just 2 or 3 candling sessions to get their ears clean. However, some people with chronic ear symptoms may need up to eight sessions over a six-month period.

Once your ears are clean, personal preference should determine how often you have your ears candled. Every three to six months would be practical.
